Don't get hooked into Kathy's Recipe Club December 3, 2009 Puzy (WENDEN, AZ United States) 214 out of 224 found this review helpful
I ordered the Xpress Redi-Set-Go on September 13, 2009 and when it arrived I had been charged $71.90 for an item which was advertised for $39.90. I did not opt to be a member of Cathy's Club, but was charged $9.95 to be one, plus shipping and handling was a whopping $21.90.
On November 11, 2009 I received notification that $14.90 had been deducted (against my credit card used to purchase the Redi-Set-Go) for three recipe booklets ($9.95) and $4.95 (shipping and handling).
To get the credit card company to refuse these "automatic" charges, I would have to cancel my credit card and have a new one issued. My bank gave me the telephone number used for the deduction, so I called and talked to "Victoria".
I was refused a credit and the only thing that I was able to resolve was that they agreed to cancel my "membership", that I didn't want in the first place. I asked that they e-mail me confirmation of the cancellation, however, that did not happen.
BEWARE! A lot of people are experiencing the same kind of "memberships" which they did not opt for, but don't know how to get out of it. I will report this company to the Federal Trade Commission.
Nice little appliance January 14, 2010 ~Nightshadow~ (Cape Coral, Florida United States) 45 out of 47 found this review helpful
Ordering:
I bought the RSG almost a year ago, shortly after it came out. I was only charged for the appliance itself plus shipping because I carefully read each and every page as I clicked through them. Those who were charged for recipe club memberships, etc. were not scammed by the company, they were simply too impatient to read everything. Caveat Emptor...
The non-stick coating:
I had a problem with the teflon coating bubbling after only 3 weeks of use. I tried to be very careful with it, but the problem developed anyway. Prior to buying the appliance I joined Cathy Mitchell's Xpress101 Yahoo group. To join, just do a search at Yahoo groups for Xpress101.
I carefully read the comments and after having the problem with the coating bubbling, I posted a message which was promptly replied to by Cathy. She gave me a manufacturer's toll-free number to call. I called the number and was given very polite service. the manufacturer sent me a brand new RSG, with free shipping and told me I did not have to return the original product. So, now I have two of them, and on occasion use them both. Although I would have preferred that the appliance was perfect on first try, I can't complain about a company who is willing to replace my merchandise totally free.
My suggestion to potential buyers? By all means, buy this excellent product, but before you cook anything directly on the unit's surface, line the bottom with a small piece of non-stick aluminum foil. This is how I cook in it now, and it does a great job. Unfortunately, Teflon has been problematic ever since it first came out (this includes the Teflon clones).
Also, be sure to join Cathy's Yahoo group. Lots of help there, and the members share RSG recipes too. :D
How well does it cook?
This little appliance does a terrific job on:
Fried eggs
Heating rolls and other bread (freshens it too)
Wraps...it makes fabulous wraps
Paninis...no, you don't get the grill marks, but they do come out yummy
Meatballs...the mini pan is perfect for these
Cupcakes...mini pan again
Personal pizzas (I especially love that I can bake a pizza using Pita bread as the base.)
It's perfect for reheating foods that don't do well in the microwave.
I've cooked other things in it, but can't remember what they were at the moment...LOL.
I've not had great success cooking raw meat in the RSG, but it's so convenient for other things, I don't care. It now has a permanent place on my countertop. For those who are interested, the company now sells many of the extra pans individually, so you no longer have to sign up for a "club".
The Xpress Redi Set Go Gets 2 Thumbs Up! November 26, 2009 Charles Cady 69 out of 77 found this review helpful
I saw this advertised on TV several times and finally decided to pick one up. It looked inexpensive and I figured if it didn't work out then it wouldn't be that big of a loss. The appliance has worked out so well that it is now the most used item in the kitchen next to the George Foreman grill and toaster.
The Ready-Set-Go is small but sturdy. It folds up nicely and you can wrap the cord around the 'feet' and tuck it away in a cupboard or against a wall when not in use.
The inside well is about the size of a small dessert plate. It's large enough to cook two average size burritos. When you first turn turn it on, the Ready-Set-Go heats up quickly. I like the indicator light on top that says when it's heated up. The timer on it is a definite plus. However, when it goes off, it will only ding once. So, if you're not paying attention, you may miss it.
Cooking with it is a breeze. When the Ready-Set-Go is warmed up, it will cook frozen fish sticks or chicken sticks thoroughly in about 11 minutes. I've left breaded chicken patties in it for 20 minutes without them coming out black but instead a dark brown. Even though it cooks evenly, it does get hot. The bottom well seems to cook hotter than the upper well/lid. There are two 'wings' on either side of it that can get very hot so you need to be careful of this.
The one I ordered came with a cookbook, a dual spatula, a dual-well insert to cook eggs, and another insert with 6 small wells. Clean up is a breeze since the Ready-Set-Go has a teflon coating. Wipe it with a moist washcloth and it's ready to go.
Originally, I got the Ready-Set-Go so I wouldn't have to heat up the oven. When the kids want chicken strips or chicken nuggets it's inconvenient to heat up the oven. The microwave is fine, but leaves the food soggy. The Ready-Set-Go is a nice cross between the two and is easy to use. It has definitely worked out better than I anticipated when I ordered it.
good for the price January 7, 2010 bigbearguy (west seneca, ny United States) 20 out of 21 found this review helpful
For the price I feel it is a good deal. I have had no issues with mine, it works great. I make sure I use a little Pam in both sides and always use the spatula that came with it. A friend has one and used a metal spatula on it and scratched it then food started sticking to it. So now he has to line his with foil. The size is good for me, since I'm a single guy. I didn't purchase any of the extra packages on the web site because they say that they will automatically ship them to you every few months, if you want them or not.
Just an update. It's is still working fine. I use it 2 to 3 times a week. I have found that the food needs to be totally defrosted and as dry as possible before it's cooked. If not the food steams and doesn't cook as well. Also depending on the size and thickness of foods the cooking time varies so you have to keep an eye on the food.
excellent product February 2, 2010 Luis F. Romero (Toluca, Mexico) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
What comes in the box? Everything pictured in the photo.
Really easy to use, so far i've got no problems with it. SOMETIMES you need a couple more minutes of cooking compared with what it's said in the cookbook, but it's no big deal.
Easy to clean, easy to store, and pretty awesome recipes included.
Definitely recommend it for people like me, who live alone, don't have to cook large amounts of food, and for those who don't have time to cook elaborate meals, this is pretty easy to use.
